February 3rd, 2011, soo excited to be on my
way to visit Colby and Doug! With a "Project
Life" surprise for her Valentine present and a
plan to do a little shopping for my "Fab Five"
trip. I stopped twice in Montgomery, first for
Peggy's Tea Cakes and then at Starbucks
for a white chocolate mocha, yummy. All set
for the next 5 hours!
Everything was fine, COLD but dry, till I hit the middle
of Birmingham...OH MY STARS! Fortunately,
I wasn't able to go but about 10 miles an hour,
my windshield wipers froze, I couldn't see and the
roads were slick. Hail, sleet, ice, I got off 65 and
tried to break the ice off the wipers, but
that didn't work, so I found a Goodyear tire
shop in Hoover. While thawing my wipers, the
GY men were totally intrigued, they said they had never
seen that before! I on the other hand was cold, scared
and uncertain. Wasn't sure if I should keep going, go
home or try to make it to Cherie's. With wipers working
I drove on, sort of! There were wrecks everywhere, ice
on bridges and the traffic was out of control! Anyway, it
took 3 hours to get thru Birmingham. I drove painfully slow
all the way to Tupelo. My anticipation of icy bridges will
forever be altered. Haven't really been that scared in a
long time. I kept wishing my Dad was with me to handle
the scary glide across the many bridges. I was thankful
I had a little experience with snowy/icy roads. When I
reached Tupelo my frozen car looked really out of place!
I decided to press on cautiously. Weather was much dryer
between Tupelo and Memphis, PTL because by then it had
started getting dark. Finally made it to Memphis!!! Wow, what
a start!!! I think it took 13 hours to make a 7 hour trip!!! About 4 days later
it was time for me to drive home and here's what it looked like outside that
morning. Needless to say, I stayed over till the roads cleared up!
I sure wish I could remember what this bumper sticker said. It was kinda contradictory! At any rate a sunny, clear ride home. WHEW!!!
